Acushla was born of a man’s passion, a strength that would allow several generations of the same family to bond around the olive oil business.
The olive tree, by its beauty, spirituality, resilience and longevity, has always fascinated Joaquim Moreira, the mentor of this project, who has spent most of his professional life in big cities and decided to pursue an alternative project closely connected to nature. The initiative to take this path came from the need to “temper” everyday life with a business rooted in the land and the slower rhythm it determines.
Acushla is a Celtic word meaning “beat of my heart”. The name choice arose from the search for a single expression able to translate the whole concept and emotion associated with this project, which materialised in 2006.
It was in Quinta do Prado, Vila Flor, in the Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro region, that Joaquim Moreira, after much effort in studying areas with high potential for olive oil production in Portugal, found the ideal site for producing outstanding olive oil.
This estate, with 14 hectares of centenarian olive groves and 200 hectares of new olive groves, has approximately 70.000 olive trees in total. When maturity is reached, the expected olive oil production will be around 250,000 litres, making it one of the largest organic production areas in the Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro region.
Lodões is a traditional village in the municipality of Vila Flor, northeastern Portugal, known for its rural charm, olive groves, vineyards, and strong agricultural heritage.
