The olive oil comes from the island of Lesvos in the East Aegean Sea, Greece. Lesbos is located in the transition area between the Mediterranean rainy winter climate and the continental steppe climate of Asia Minor, which has a particularly favorable effect on the quality of the olives. The volcanic origin of the island also has other positive properties on the soil conditions and thus on the availability of nutrients for the growth of the olive tree.
The first olives were harvested as early as 6000 BC. Cultivated in the Mediterranean area. Through the extensive cultivation of these olive groves over several centuries, unique cultural and natural areas have emerged in Lesvos. By selling the olive oil, these traditional and culturally valuable landscapes should be preserved. At the same time we plant new young trees for future generations. The olive trees are cultivated extensively without chemicals according to ecological guidelines, resulting in a high-quality natural product. We also buy the olives from the local smallholders at fair and better prices than the large producers. This promotes direct marketing.
