Calabona is a single-cultivar extra virgin olive oil from Bosana. It takes its name from a small plateau overlooking the sea of Alghero, where our family has owned this olive grove for four generations. The proximity to the sea exposes the ancient olive trees to the mistral wind, a factor that enriches the goodness of the olives. Soft on the palate, with a hint of artichoke and thistle, enriched with a herbaceous memory, it has that slight spiciness in the throat that enhances the flavour. Excellent raw on bruschetta or salads, it is perfect to accompany stewed meat or enhance the goodness of a legume soup, but it also revives a good steamed fish.
The Ancient Olive Oil Company of Sardinia has its roots in the second half of the 1800s; for four generations, the FOIS family has been dedicated to cultivating and producing olive oil. A tradition that Antonio Ganino Fois, current owner, carries on with his brother Raffaele, the family, and a team that, for many years, has been taking care of the fields, harvesting, and operations at the oil mill.
Passion, rigour and quality are the foundations of this company, which combines experience with modern systems to best guarantee quality control and respect for the environment. The company is now certified ISO 9001 (“Quality research system”) and ISO 14001 (“Compliance and monitoring of environmental legislation, energy savings and costs”). It also enjoys the “Parco di Porto Conte” environmental quality label.
