Herdade dos Grous is a project by the German Pohl family. The 1,050-hectare estate has 133ha of vineyards, 150ha of olive groves, cork oak forests, organic vegetable garden, a dam and a hotel.
Herdade dos Grous’s mission is to produce sustainably, protect the environment, promote the well-being of its employees and benefit the local community in which it operates. To this end, it has been developing projects throughout the production cycle, where sustainability is the essential basis.

In 2012, Pohl family acquired Quinta de Valbom, in the Alto Douro Wine Region, and since then, the group also produces wines in the most famous Designation of Origin in Portugal, including Port wine and also Extra Virgin Olive Oil. The same mission of producing in a sustainable way is also followed here, in the 45 hectares of vineyards and olive grove.
At the end of 2020, Herdade dos Grous was the first wine producer in Alentejo to obtain certification in Sustainably Produced, promoted by the Wines of Alentejo Sustainability Program, and in 2023 both properties received the “Sustainable Winegrowing” seal, by the National Sustainability Certification of the Wine Sector. Still internationally, Herdade dos Grous is a Gold member of the International Wineries for Climate Action (IWCA).
Luís Duarte, winemaker and administrator of Herdade dos Grous and Quinta de Valbom, was honored by the President of the Republic with the degree of Commander of the Order of Business Merit, in the Agricultural Merit class, and three times elected by the press as The Best Winemaker in Portugal. He coordinates a young and dedicated team.
The wines and Extra Virgin Olive Oils from Herdade dos Grous and Quinta de Valbom are quality wines, using mostly native grape varieties and the most modern winemaking techniques, representing the strong identity of both wine regions of Alentejo and Douro.
